In fact, according to recent surveys, people working from home tend to be more productive than those working in offices, and even some of the fastest-growing companies in the US today actually allow their employees to work from home. But, for someone who’s totally new to this, here are some key tools you could adapt to help increase your productivity.
Create a Workspace
Now, you might think you could just set up your work on the kitchen counter, on your couch, or maybe even in bed. None of these are good ideas when it comes to working from home. It is so important to create a space that is dedicated entirely to your work, so you can actually focus.
Establish a Routine
Some people are early birds and are most productive in the morning, while others are night owls and do their best work at night. It’s important to find a schedule that works for you. While working from home, it is also possible for you to lose track of time, which could then affect your productivity adversely. For others, it could also mean they end up losing a lot of time because they tend to mix up their work with other house chores. So, devise a timetable, map out your day, and stick to it. Make sure you have adequate breaks as well in between.
Working from home means you get to spend a ton of time with family. But, that could also mean that your personal and professional lives get mixed. Ensure to communicate your schedule to all family members, and lay some ground rules about interruptions.
This is probably the biggest issue that newbies would have to face. Your home is your comfort space, but too much comfort can be a bad thing when it comes to working from home. It will be too easy for you to just go on Netflix and continue your Game of Thrones marathon, spend an hour watching funny cat videos on YouTube or get lost in a Facebook time trap. This will be hard but stay away from TV, music and social media.
Equipping Yourself with the Right Tools
Working from home is convenient, but without the right technical tools, it wouldn’t give you the same results as working in an office. Make sure you have a fast and reliable Internet connection, the right kind of software/hardware, and adequate office supplies.
